COMMENTS AND STORIES FROM OWNERS OF

Liscoonvara Maine Coon Cats

"I need your advice. Katie isn't responding to the water bottle, i.e she doesn't get off the table when we spray her. We're starting to think she likes to be wet. She even snuck in and showered with Kelly the other day! Do you have any suggestions for training, disciplining, etc.?...

"...she's been better behaved. So we haven't had to resort to (rattling a can of) pennies yet. The last time I sprayed Katie, she closed her eyes and opened her mouth. That was pretty much a flashing neon sign saying she's not afraid of water anymore.

"The girls are still letting us brush their teeth. Nilly doesn't like being taken away from the window and her bird watching sometimes, but that's the biggest fight we've had from either of them. Katie really enjoys it - she even knows which brush is hers. She took her brush out of the cabinet for me the other day.

"We were going to play Mancala a few days ago, so I got out the board and started to set it up. The girls were all excited by the noise so they came to see what was going on. Just to be cute, I thought I'd show Katie how to play - since she was the one who was most interested. It wasn't too long before Katie was moving the stones on her own. She'd scoop them up in her paw one by one and move them down the board. I'd let her know when it was her turn, and then she'd do the work. It started out real good. Then, she either caught on to the point of the game, or just got excited, because then she started picking up all the stones and dropping them in her bin. It was fun while it lasted. I never thought I'd be able to play a boardgame with her.

"So, you want to hear how Katie knows her namesake. My friend Katie, who Katie kitty is named after, sent me a bunch of pictures of her on her trip to Italy. I found a really cute one to frame, so I got ready to cut it out and put it together. Katie kitty was watching me, so I told her "This is your auntie Katie who you're named after." She meowed at me. Then I said, "See, you have her red hair." She meowed again and seemed to like that. After I was done framing her picture, I got out my family album to put some other pictures away. (Katie and her family are close friends with my family so I have them in my family album.) Again, Katie kitty was watching, so I was pointing out everybody. I turned the page, and before I could point out my friend Katie, Katie kitty put her paw on Katie's picture and meowed. So I said, "Yes that's auntie Katie." She meowed again, and I said "Yes, you have her red hair." We went through this a few times throughout the rest of the album. When we put the album away, Katie kitty went over to our baker's rack and pawed a picture of my friend Katie and meowed. So, again, I said, "Yes that's your auntie Katie." And, of course, she meowed again. So I said, "Yes you have her red hair." Now anytime my friend Katie calls, I tell Katie kitty who's on the phone and she comes and says hello. And anytime I pull my family album out, Katie kitty comes to look for Katie's pictures and point them out."

"He is doing absolutely fabulous! He purrs nonstop! Right now he is purring and laying on my lap. He is just a little doll. We are very pleased. We are still working on the name. I wanted to get an idea of his disposition before giving him a name, but we have one in the works. As soon as we have thought of the perfect name, we'll let you know. He puts a smile on my face every day and has been just the little guy we've been waiting for!" (Sebastian)

"When I took Belle into our vet, she made a big hit. We were visited in the room by three different techs who had heard about the "pretty kitten in room 3." When I had her out at the front desk she attracted all sorts of attention from the ladies behind the desk as well as other clients. Not only is she beautiful outside, but she's the sweetest little imp on the inside. We are madly in love with her and can't imagine life without her. Thank you!!!

"Last night/this morning, I went to bed LATE! Belle came in as I was trying to get dressed for bed and HAD to be loved NOW! Well, I combined getting ready for bed and petting Belle, which of course, was NOT good enough. So, when I crawled into bed, Belle made it known that I needed to give her my FULL attention. She lay down on top of my head and butted her head against mine! Well, as if that weren't enough, she moved onto my pillow, (thankfully off of my head!) and began to knead my hair while I pet her. Next, she stuffed her cold, wet nose IN my ear!!!! Now, you’ve heard of goosebumps, but have you ever heard of Godzillabumps?!?!? THAT'S what I had running from the top of my head, down to the tips of my toes by the time I got the little brat to get her nose OUT of my ear! ;-) She makes it SO HARD to get to sleep at night because she comes in and is either adorable, loving, silly, or all of the above. I'm sure you must know how hard it is to go to sleep at night when you have the giggles? She does the cutest and often silliest things that keep me up late, stifling my giggles and snorts of laughter, in an effort not to wake up the rest of the family members!

"Gwyn is my baby. She sleeps with me and comes to me and follows me about. I adore her. Belle still comes in every morning to make sure I remember how to take a shower. Gwyn and Belle "stupidvise" together every morning. I love my furry audience, even when they are in the way or trying to help me dry off by licking my legs.

"The best investment we've made, according to Belle and Gwyn, is the carpeted climbing tree with the house on top. Gwyn forgets about climbing up platform to platform. She goes blasting up the trunk to the top of the house. Then she proceeds to find interest in her tail and chases it around and around on the "A" shaped sloped roof. We're just waiting for the day when she misses and goes tumbling down. She and Belle have both tumbled down several levels quite a few times each, but they still love their tree. The tumbles happen during play when they forget to watch their balance. The look of "oh, shoot I blew it!" is great to see as they madly scramble for purchase. They are much better to watch than TV. Thank you for all the joy, love, and purrs. I don't know how I lived without them for so long."

"We love them very much. I felt a little crazy to pay so much for cats, but now I am a true believer. These are truely the most wonderful cats in the world. Even my husband, who is not a big animal lover, feels that it was the best investment he has made in a long time. They give a great deal of happiness, fun and contentment. (Except possibly at 2:00am when they attack our feet under the sheets...)
Thanks again for the wonderful cats - I hope you never move or decide to give up the business... I'm never going anywhere else for cats... hopefully it will be a very long time before we will need another cat." (Hans and Peaches)

"Bogart is the cutest cat... but, we've been calling him "Mr.P" more than Bogart. Mr. P for Mr. Personality. He's so darned funny and cute. He's grown already!!! You'd be surprised at how much he's grown in just a week! Amazing."

"Zoe is doing wonderful. Last check at the vet in September had her weighing in at 13 pounds. She is by far the funniest and strangest cat we have ever seen. I need to finish up a roll that includes her standing fully extended on her hind legs (which she does all the time). She has been wonderful with our two little girls and we have never had a scratch. She and our dog, which is an Afghan Hound, are the best of friends and take turns chasing each other around the house. Oddly enough Zoe is usually the one doing the chasing. She talks all the time, in chirps and raccoon noises and loves water. She's definitely a keeper! Thanks again."

"A quick note, all is well with Moose. We have never had a visitor that hasn't agreed that we have the best cat ever.
Likes: flies, moths, watching birds and squirrels, fishing pole toys, fur mice/rats.
Dislikes: closed doors.
He continues to have wonderful habits, doesn't scratch furniture, always uses litter box etc."

"JD is wonderful. He's very affectionate and mellow. He likes to crawl up on my chest and cuddle when I'm in bed, although he's so big he doesn't fit! He's in very good shape, lean and active, 20 lbs."

"Thank you for bringing such joy and happiness into our lives, we feel very blessed to have two Liscoonvarna members as part of our happy family. They truly are both happy and healthy, I know Jamie is super handsome but I don't think he has the desire to be "best in show" as far as the show halls go. He is puurfectly happy being our hands down winner! :)
I brag to just about anyone who will listen that my babygirl Antera started the Liscoonvarna legacy. She is cuddling on my lap as I write this!! She says hello and she misses you!"

"Missy is a joy. You are correct, she is extremely intelligent and does seem to have at least 3 brain cells at this point. She is curious; she joined me in the bathtub this morning, was doing the Sunday relax in the tub with a book routine, and she decided that I looked lonely and joined me, and yes she did get wet several times. She does not seem to have a problem with water. All in all she seems to be adjusting well, she does like being in the same room as the Humans and has taken over a portion of my desk for hers. And I swear she has grown already...

"She has wormed her way in to our hearts. She did take a bath Saturday morning, I had started to fill the tub and got called away to the phone, and not thinking, did not close the door. One of her favorite games is to jump in the tub and hide. Well she got a slight surprise when she did this time... an unscheduled bath. She was in and out so quickly it reminded me of a song during the 70's, the Streaker... She has decided that she likes to swing... on the plants that is, the hanging ones. She will hang onto the knot and just swing back and forth giving us gray hair and ulcers. Needless to say there are no longer any plants hanging there...

"We lost Sunny on Monday and it was a rather sad day for all of us. He, on the other hand, lives on... He taught Missy how to drink out of the sink in the short time they had together, he liked to get wet... Missy on the other hand would prefer not to, so she dips her paw into the running water and brings it up to her face to drink... Never mind that while doing this her feet get wet, and then when she looks to see why, she sits in the water, getting the rest of her bottom wet while she licks her paws. She has also learned about the spray bottle, and all you have to do is say her name and point... she will immediately quit... Of course when she thinks you are not looking she does go back and attempt the eating of the plants. She has decided that vinegar not only smells nasty but tastes just as nasty *grin* She and Peevers play together quite a bit, which is good for Peevers, he is starting to show his youthful figure again. As well as good for Missy because she will nap. She has also decided that the best place to sleep at night is on the pillow on the headboard where the stuffed cat was... Operative word here is "was", she took offense at it on her pillow and set it on the floor at the bottom of the bed, keeping in mind this stuffed cat is much larger than her. She is also better than an alarm clock. When it gets to about 4:30am she will start with washing your ears... and your chin if she can reach, and your nose if you are not careful. I must admit that waking up to sandpaper tongue on your face is not the most pleasant thing, but the purrs are awesome. You can hear her purrs from across the room. She is just a funny, loving wonderful lady... She does like to be around people and is currently sitting here trying to chase the letter across the screen. Gee I think we will keep her =)

"Well Missy has made it to 5 mos now and we haven't killed her yet... laughed at her ALOT, but haven't killed her. She has learned a couple of new tricks... One is she now sits in the sink... pulls up the plunger... picks it up and drops it out the floor, and then she proceeds to play with it... So we play hunt for the plunger on numerous occasions... She still insists on jumping into the bathtub without looking. And yes she has gotten several baths. She also likes to jump from the top of the television to the half wall in the kitchen, promptly giving mom heart failure... She and Peevers get along fine. In fact with her here it has made Peevers much more affectionate.

"She keeps all her mice and little balls behind the downstairs bathroom door... and when she decides she wants one she will run down and get it out... no one ever said she was messy. She can run faster than I have ever seen a cat run, and change directions on a dime and give a quarters worth of change... You can always tell when she has had a full day. Her eyes get so heavy, and you can watch her fight sleep, afraid that she just might miss something. She likes to snuggle and be close... She will wash your face and hair in a heartbeat, and you know you are accepted when she decides to groom you. We had a friend here for lunch one day... She hadn't sat in the chair more than 3 minutes when Missy got up behind her and groomed her hair. Carol thought it was awesome, and yes there was another conquest. She also has many toys, as you know... There is the one with the feather thing on a string and a flexible pole. We usually leave it downstairs stuck in the back of the recliner so that she can play with the feathers even when she is not being played with. She decided that she wanted it upstairs, and that is exactly what she did with it. How she got it out I have no clue, but she did, and she dragged it up the stairs. I have never had a cat that could sit and study something and figure it out, and then do it. I would say she got more than her fair share of the brain cells in that litter. She has decided that she likes people food, and on occasion she will get a little piece of chicken or turkey. She is learning the rules: if you beg, you can forget the treat... if you don't, when we are finished then you will get a treat. We are very selective about her treats, but feel one once in a while is not a bad thing.
She does have the tendency if she wants something upstairs or downstairs, she brings it. She has also grown partial to the pretty shiny things: watches, rings, earrings, there is nothing safe unless it is in a drawer. She has figured out how to open the jewelry box... It got moved especially when we found my engagement ring in the kitchen on the floor with her batting it around, it seemed it was just the right size for her to carry around and toss, can't say she doesn't have good taste. The jewelry has since been put in a Missy Free Place *grin*
She is currently sitting in the chair, laying in wait for Peevers who has just entered the room. They both had a nap, need I say more. She is learning that there are a couple of places she cannot be, one is the kitchen counters and the kitchen table. Other than that she has the run of the house. We have learned to keep the blind cords up and out of her way, and that trying to distract her from doing something doesn't work anymore because she has more than two brain cells. I did also order That Yankee Cat to learn more about the Maine Coon. I have never had such an interesting, fascinating animal, and I think I have gone the whole range."

"Fi's in my lap as I write :> She gets picked up and carried around all the time and seems to have settled into the routine fine. Yesterday morning, I picked her up for a cuddle before I had to leave for work. She turned toward me and put each of her mittened paws aside each of my cheeks and pulled my face forward for a nuzzle ;> It was so sweet!"

"Thank you again so much for letting us have this wonderful little boy. I can't get over how beautiful he is and what an outstanding personality he has. He's been a joy to be around and it hasn't even been 24 hours yet :)...

"Morpheus is an equal opportunity lover :) And it can be human or dog! He is now grooming both of the chihuahuas. They seem to enjoy the attention until he decides he's done grooming and bites one of them :) This morning Morpheus dropped off of the couch in front of Cujo and didn't see him. He finally turned around and got spooked because Cujo was practically on top of him and he leaped 2 feet in one direction and Cujo leaped 2 feet in the opposite. I've never seen a chihuahua change direction in mid air like that! I was laughing so hard I had to sit down at the kitchen table...

"He is now perfectly happy in the house. I haven't needed an alarm clock since he came home. At precisely 6:00 am every morning he sits on my chest and "talks" to me until I get up! He always follows me to bed when it's bedtime and mostly stays there until he figures I've slept enough...

"Morpheus got banished to the living room at about 3:00 am this morning. He decided the best place for him to be was laying on my face purring for all he was worth. And if I don't pet him when he starts purring, he starts biting my nose! I kept pushing him off of me this morning but he wouldn't take the hint. It was like he was attached to a string, everytime my arm came back to my body, so did he! I do love him to pieces though!...

"Morph made me late for work this morning. I woke up to the sight of two golden eyes peering at me from the top of my alarm clock. He was laying on the snooze button so the alarm never went off...

"Morpheus has figured out how to open the sliding glass door. I caught him up on my end table with his paw wrapped around the handle. Luckily I keep it locked :) I think I read somewhere on your website that Vestacha was "scary smart". I think he inherited it! He's also in imminent danger from curiously poking his head between Bill's legs when he's standing at the toilet :)...

"Morph seems to be growing overnight :) Everyone ooohs and ahhhs over him when they come visit. He's so friendly he comes right up to everyone. He's let me sleep for the last three mornings in a row. I don't know whether to be thankful or try and figure out what he's getting into that's keeping him occupied! He's very curious about the puppy. He keeps patting the puppy on the head and sniffing him. I can see the wheels turning (ooohhh, a giant hamster!)...

"Morph is doing great. He is over 10 pounds now. He had his first encounter with snow a couple of weeks ago. He made a dash for the door like he usually does when I let the dogs out and this time I let him succeed. It was the first time I ever saw him come back to the door and meow to be let back in :) Now he looks outside before he tries to make a break for it!...

"We put up the Christmas tree this weekend and Morpheus thinks he's hit the mother lode :) He has started playing hide and seek with me like Chinook does with you. It works out well until the dogs start trying to play and then he finds me every time! So now I put the dogs up and we play for a little while."

"Ramses is ridiculously gorgeous. He's developed that great mane and of course has those enormous gold eyes. He's quite the independent thinker and he pretty much sets the rules around here. He's also really really smart -- kind of scary smart sometimes. He's very good at communicating. If he thinks I should be paying more attention to him, he'll do something he knows he's not supposed to (nothing really bad, but just bad enough) and then just look at me. It cracks me up every time. He weighs about 12 pounds now. He's not real heavy yet, but he is big --- long and tall with very long legs. He purrs like a maniac. He's quite a good little fetcher (much better than my dog ever was). He just keeps getting more and more gorgeous."

"The kitty, formerly know as Little Guy, is now a whopping 5 1/2 pounds. ÊHe sounds like a herd of elephants when he "gracefully" runs across the wooden floor (sounds like a herd of ponies on the carpet). My daughter keeps saying that "this is the kind of cat I'd hoped for." He has the nicest personality of any cat I've had.

"Buddy is getting bigger every day. He now weighs 9-1/2 pounds and sounds like a herd of shetland ponies running thru the house.

"Buddy is becoming one of the sweetest cats we've known. He follows Sarah around and never misses an opportunity to swat a fly, no matter how high. He is truly a special cat. He does think he is the family alarm clock. If I'm not up when he thinks I should be, he sniffs my face to see if I'm breathing. Then he purrs like a freight train and squeeks/whistles on the inhale. If that doesn't get me moving, he "combs" my hair. By then, I give up and get out of bed. I'm awake anyway. "

"Thanks for inquiring about Trev. He is doing very well... has gained 2 lbs. I think he is filling out with fur, especially in the neck area. He is extremely loving and cuddly. He purrs so hard he almost chokes. He sleeps all curled up with me on the bed and plays constantly with Spank. Still a little wary of Ayla, the dog. He definitely fits in with our household. We love him!!!!"

"*mumblemumble* *YAWN* *mumbleplayfulkittenmumble*
Well, the minute we turned off the light someone decided that the top of the bed was more fun than the bottom and had a grand time chasing the dreaded foot-under-covers-monster. After much exploring and one tumble into the bedside wastebasket, he finally settled down to sleep in the middle of the bed. Hmmm... maybe now I can get some sleep...... ;)

"I did finally get some sleep. We put Tad in the spare room again for the night (of course, hubby was still putzing around when I went to bed and let him out again, so he sneaked around through the bathroom door into the bedroom and pounced on me quite gleefully). He came out to play this morning when we woke up.

"I'm attempting to write you an update with the little monster climbing all over me and playing with the keyboard :) Right now he's perched on my knee peering around the laptop screen. He has settled in quite well. He and Bug are bestest friends now and can often be seen playing King Of The Hill on the computer chair. Griffon is still sulking but tolerates him. He's taking it a lot better than he did Bug's arrival. Tad's new nickname is Drama Queen....he loves to come running up to you and squall loudly in your face (fish breath, ewwwww!) for no reason. He's quite demanding when he wants attention. He's always following me wherever I go and loves to pounce on me when I'm not looking. Right now he's settled down a bit and is curled up under my chin. He's managed to win everyone over. He spent Tuesday at my mom's since we had maintenance coming in to change the heater filters and I didn't want him underfoot or sneaking out the door. He apparently followed my mom all morning as she got ready for work and took a nap on her feet. She was totally won over. :) He has a vet appt for his shots on Friday morning. He's enjoying being totally spoiled right now. We love him to bits. :)

"Well, the little brat is wiped out after a hectic morning of chasing Bug and Griffon, jumping in boxes, pouncing on wrapping paper, chewing on bows, and playing with tons of new toys. OWWWWW!!!!!!! and he just climbed up my leg with his sharp little claws so he could take over my lap. :} He's also decided my fingers need to be cleaned so I'm trying to type as he washes them. *sigh*

"That cat...
...is in hot water now!
He just dumped 2000 crickets all over the floor in the dragon room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If he weren't so cute and proud of himself, I'd clobber him. ;)
DOH!"

"Ozie is doing great. From the moment I got him home he looked around and that was it. He follows Anne and I around like a little shadow. He is a big cuddle kitty. He love to sleep with Anne and sleep on my lap. I was worried about his adjustment to a new home for nothing. He acts like he has lived here his whole life. We love Ozie!!! He was great on the car ride home. We had a long, wonderful conversation all the way home. I found he loves to talk. I will keep you updated, thanks for the wonderful kitty!"

"Thunder continues to do well at the house. He loves to play and run and I am amazed at how much he likes to be around people. In fact, I can't walk anywhere in the house without him chasing my feet. One of our favorite games is to chase each other around the house--AnaLicia, of course, enjoys this as well. So far, Thunder has been a GREAT friend and I can't thank you enough for bringing him into our lives.

"I just wanted to let you know that THUNDER is doing great. He is still as "wild" as ever. He attacks everything that moves... sometimes he attacks things that don't move. He is the craziest cat I have ever had. We just love him to death. While he doesn't like to be petted, he does love to be around you... on top of you... and everywhere in between. He just loves attention... and we love giving it to him."

"Thought I would let you know how Edward is doing. He's very healthy and active (still). He weighs 14 lbs. We expect him to be a very typical Maine Coone size in the 18-20 lb. range. His coat has gotten somewhat lighter. His tail has filled out beautifully. He is super active. It's been more like having a raccoon because he immediately goes after any small item that is left unguarded. He likes to sleep on top of the kitchen cupboards. He is intensely curious about water in every form, and no one takes a bath unattended here. He sits on top of our recliner part of the day with his head stuck between the vertical blinds, watching the neighbors come and go up the stairs. His favorite game is "Flashlight in the Dark". He still purrs almost continuously even when he's not getting petted or belly-rubbed. He likes to express his affection for us by vigorously kneading his paws on our pillows, right by our heads, at 4:00 a.m.
Vic says to tell you we did misname him. We now think "Liscoonvarna's Red Rocket" would be more appropriate.
He's has had a couple vet appointments for routine care and has been pronounced very healthy. He is quite popular with the vet and her staff. He's an awesome cat. We're so lucky to have him and we enjoy him very much.

"The funniest thing happened, Lara. I had honey or wheat blonde hair from the time we got Eddy until about 12 weeks ago. I dyed my hair, which is now halfway down my back, back to brunette. Suddenly Eddy quit hanging out with Vic and became my little buddy. He slept with me, gave me lots of 'head butts' and kneaded his paws in my hair if I was laying down (it's nice to be kneaded!). We finally figured out that the long, dark hair made me look like his first mommy! What a riot! Vic and I had to switch kitty chores (he feeds and I clean the litter box) to try and get Eddy to associate him as the caregiver. Guess I'll have to wear a blonde wig at home! We know you gave him extra love and attention - we can tell!

"We thought we would write and let you know that Eddy is doing fine. He is so intelligent that it just amazes us. We're completely convinced he is a reincarnated human. He seems very happy and purrs almost continuously - 24 hours a day!! If he's awake, he's purring."

"Just a note to let you know that Bonnie is doing fantastic. We love her so much, she could not possibly be loved more!! She is a delight and has fit in so well. She is funny, loving, playful, affable, curious, talkative, pesty, and downright adorable."

"She's doing great! Lucky still isn't too sure about her, but she's tolerating her. Shirley seems somewhat confused that a cat could actually not think she's the greatest thing going, but she's respecting Lucky's need for space. We're having a great time together. It's great to have a cat who wants to play like Shirley does. She's remembering everything you taught her. She's tried jumping up on the table, but has decided the same rules apply here so no longer does so--at least when I'm around! She's almost like a puppy. She follows me everywhere and sits beside me when Lucky doesn't want to and sleeps with me. I think she's adjusting well."

"Stitch is absolutely wonderful. He has grown into a real companion and is so nice to be with! His face just makes me melt. Silly but true. He wakes me up in the middle of the night wanting to play. Or when I get up at 2 in the morning to let Katie (the Sheltie) outside, if I slip downstairs before he can wake up, he is soon following & "chirping" loudly --- "where are you going?" Great personality and character. A real sweetheart."
