For a tasty treat that will not upset the digestion of cats and kittens, look for Meyenberg Goat Milk, available in cans or cartons at most supermarkets or in powdered form at most health food stores. Please remember, cow's milk is not good for cats!
Our best discovery for kitty litter is called World's Best Cat Litter, which is not only effective but environmentally friendly. Clay cat litter is one of the biggest contributors to the landfill problem next to plastic disposable diapers, so it is a tremendous benefit to the environment to be using litter made from 100% corn. The cats love it, it clumps better than any other clumping litter (and it is completely digestible so it is safe for young kittens, unlike the clumping clay which is potentially deadly), and it controls odors naturally without the use of added fragrance. It is flushable and biodegradable, has a pleasant woody scent, and because it is so fine and soft it tracks less and feels better to cats who are finicky or have sensitive paws. The price is higher than average, but it does last a lot longer so it is very cost effective. They also have a dealer locater on their website.
Another good clay litter alternative is PaPurr cat litter, made from 100% recycled post consumer paper sludge. The price is lower than most clay litters, and it is available at any PetsMart store.

For safe and effective flea control, treat carpets, floors, and bedding with boric acid powder, available from McMaster-Carr Supply Company.
Plan on about 5 lbs per large room, sprinkle evenly over carpet with seive, and brush in with pushbroom. Leave on carpet for a day or two and vacuum. Brush some into floorboards in uncarpeted rooms. Wash hands after handling to avoid dry skin.
Boric acid powder dries out the flea larvae, breaking the lifecycle and effectively elimiating the flea population within a month. Treatment should last up to three years. Reapply if carpet is steam cleaned or replaced.
Got fungus too? Program Flea Control products for dogs and cats is wonderfully effective against fleas, ticks and fungal infections.
